1000-Lb Sisters’ Amy Slaton recently shared the cause of her severe lazy eye at her first eye doctor visit since she was 13 years old. She explained it is a disease called toxoplasmosis, a rare condition that causes permanent scarring. She opened up about how it was caused by a parasite that can be passed on through contact with infected cat feces. It infected her mother while she was pregnant.
Amy told the ophthalmologist that this eye disease has plagued her throughout her whole life, making her more self-conscious than being over 400 lbs.

Amy has said that she is legally blind, which has had a big effect on her life and mental health. She was told when she was 13 years old that she could never get a driver’s license and would have to rely on her family or friends to drive her. Amy explained in an emotional scene on the show that the way her eyes made her look made her feel worse than being over 400 lbs because she couldn’t control her lazy eye. She has been on disability because she was established as legally blind.

1000 Lb Sisters’ Interesting Timing
Amy & Tammy have been fighting more than ever in season 8. When the show started, Amy was the sister who lost weight after bariatric surgery, going from 406 lbs to 281 lbs in the first season, while Tammy gained weight and struggled daily. Amy got pregnant within 6 months against medical advice.
Fans got tired of Tammy’s bad attitude and her not losing weight. Amy was ‘the star’ for a while, until the last few seasons. Tammy took over the spotlight on the TLC show after she lost over 500 lbs and got approved for skin removal surgery. All the while, Amy was gaining her weight back and had desperately wanted to be approved for skin removal surgery.

Amy’s new look has not been revealed on the show or on social media officially. The most obvious reveal is her recent Instagram post. Amy’s eyes are very straight. Amy said on the show that she feels that once she gets the corrective eye surgery, she will be beautiful and not self-conscious anymore. And now that beauty is shining through in her latest picture that she shared.
Amy said that a fan came up to her at an event signing, wanting to know where she got her outfit. It is very obvious that Amy had her eye surgery, and she looks beautiful. Fans are commenting on how much she looks like her older sister, Misty, now.
