The evil Matt Clark was last seen on The Young and the Restless a month ago, but Roger Howarth fans are in for a big surprise; the actor is back at the CBS studio where Y&R tapes, which means that his evil character has more hell to unleash.

The Evil Matt Clark Goes Way Back In Genoa City History

In the summer of 2025, Young and the Restless announced that Howarth would be joining the CBS cast in a secret role. Viewers learned that his character’s name was Mitch Bacall when he first appeared on TV on October 31, 2025. In reality, he was Matt Clark, the bad guy who tortured Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. Eddie Cibrian played the part at first, but Rick Hearst (Ric, GH) took over from 2000 to 2001.

Young and the Restless: Roger Howarth Talks Alter Ego

Roger Howarth spoke to Soap Opera Digest about his alter ego. He described him as “a true bad guy,” saying: “If a person is pretending to be another person, you kind of know everything about that person. Like, if they are lying about who they are, what else are they lying about? Matt, on some level, really believes in the life that he has been living all these years as Mitch — and the great thing about that is that it kind of guaranteed that the current Matt Clark was going to be very similar to the way he had been written previously.”

How Matt Clark wreaked havoc on GC Residents

Matt didn’t waste any time causing trouble for Nick and Sharon and their son Noah (Lucas Adams), who was having an affair with “Mrs. Mitch Bacall,” Sienna (Tamara Braun). The Newmans worked together to stop Matt from doing bad things, and in January, Victor (Eric Braeden) decided to give Matt his own kind of justice, literally declaring himself the judge who would decide Matt’s fate. Guards on Victor’s payroll last saw the character being dragged away.

Matt Clark Is Blowing back Into Town

Victor teased Matt that he would never see any of the Newmans again, but it’s a good bet that Matt will prove him wrong. On February 12, Howarth shared an Instagram story that included a picture of his parking spot at Television City, where the Young and the Restless studio is located, along with the U2 song “It’s a Beautiful Day.”

The sign on his spot in the picture below jokingly changed his name to “Rogers.” Digest has confirmed that Howarth wasn’t just visiting the studio for fun; he started filming again earlier this week. Howarth  probably won’t be on screen until March because The Young and the Restless tapes its episodes weeks in advance.
