Steve Burton has broken his silence on why he decided to walk away from General Hospital so suddenly & temporarily. The actor took a moment to talk about the rumors that were going around online about his absence, putting an end to a number of them.
Steve Burton Got Lots of Hate For His Hiatus Announcement
Burton made it clear that he and Jason will be back in Port Charles this summer. He said that he has complete faith in the writers and the people in charge of how his return as Jason will be handled.
Burton talked about why he is taking a break from work on his podcast That’s Awesome with Bradford Anderson, who plays Spinelli on the ABC soap. Burton said that his choice was based on living his best life and spending time with his family.

The former star of The Young and the Restless & Days of Our Lives also said he was angry about the false stories going around about his break. Burton talked about the hateful and negative messages he’s gotten since he said he was taking a break from General Hospital.
Burton, on the other hand, put a positive spin on the bad things by saying, “Let’s get our perspective straight.” Waking up and saying, “I have no problems” is a blessing. I’m feeling good. I am 55 years old. “I want to live a life, and that’s fine.”

Dawson’s Creek Star’s Death Shook Burton Even More After His Announcement
Steve explained, “Life is more important than anything else. I had a couple executive producers who said once, ‘Hey, family and life is way more important than any show that you’re ever going to do.’ That really hits home after the passing of James Van Der Beek. You look at James and his family, and all this guy wanted was five more minutes with his wife and kids, you know?”
Burton is talking about the death of “Dawson’s Creek” actor James Van Der Beek, who died on February 11 at the age of 48 after a fight with colorectal cancer. He said that being on a soap can feel like a “hamster wheel,” especially since he’s been doing it for so long.

Burton Loves His General Hospital Family
Burton loves General Hospital and his family there, but it’s a lot of work that takes time away from his real family. Last spring, Burton married Michelle Lundstrom. They have a family that includes people from both sides. He has two daughters and a son, and she has two daughters.
Burton added: “I have a family too. I’m newly married. I want to take a break. I want to live life a little bit and go enjoy,” he shared, adding, “I’m just excited to take a break, spend time with the family, and just go live a little, and be grateful that I have a chance to do that. That’s a gift in itself.”
