Love on the Spectrum‘s Abbey Romeo breaks her silence about long-time love and fiancé David Isaacman, and what she says will surprise you.
On a new episode of Tea Time with Raven and Miranda, the Love on the Spectrum star discussed her current relationship with her ex-boyfriend after their split, which happened after five years together.
Abbey Romeo Opens up About Moving on without David
“David and I decided to call each other ‘best friends,’ not boyfriend and girlfriend anymore,” Abbey told hosts Raven-Symoné and Miranda Pearman-Maday during the Wednesday, May 20 podcast. When asked by Raven-Symoné, 40, and her wife, 38, about how she felt “to be a single woman,” Abbey replied, “Being a single lady, like what Beyoncè says, it feels amazing. I’ve grown and changed a lot over the past four and a half years.”
She credited her ex as she reflected on their relationship: “I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she said, pausing before adding, “He was a good start.”
Pearman-Maday commented that early relationships are “so important” for growth and understanding “what we want in our next relationship.” Raven-Symoné agreed, saying Ariana Grande “said it best” with her song, “Thank U, Next.”
Abbey Romeo’s mother, Christine, who was present for the podcast, asked her what was something “funny” she always said about her ex. Abbey responded, saying at least David “wasn’t cheating and lying” like her brother’s ex.
Their journey together on Love on the Spectrum
Abbey and David first met on the Netflix series Love on the Spectrum in 2021, with their first date at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on July 12 that year. They were the show’s longest-standing couple until their recent breakup, which the U.S. Sun first reported in April.
On the show’s fourth season, Abbey told producers about her relationship with David, saying “neither one of us are ready to get married.” She also noted, “already married in our hearts.” She further explained, “I don’t want to be a divorced lady like my mom, so that’s why I don’t want to rush it, take my time to get married.”
After their split, Abbey, David, and their families released a joint statement to PEOPLE: “Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other. At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends, wishing each other the best.”
