19 Kids and Counting star Jim Bob Duggar’s sister feels that more family members deserve further scrutiny given recent public scandals. She went on a podcast and said a lot. Read on to find out her shocking remarks about her brother and sister-in-law.
Concerns about Jim Bob and Michelle’s parenting first arose with some 19 Kids and Counting viewers in 2015, after their son Josh Duggar was accused of molesting several underage girls, including some of his sisters. Josh was later arrested in 2021 for receiving and possessing child pornography and was found guilty by a jury. (He is now serving a 151-month sentence in federal prison.)
More recently, their son Joseph Duggar was arrested in March after being accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation. He faces charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious conduct by a person 18 or older. Joseph has entered a written “not guilty” plea. (His wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested on unrelated charges but released on bond.)
Jim Bob Duggar’s Sister Says Harsh Things
“In my opinion, I do believe that Jim Bob and his wife Michelle should be investigated just because of everything that has happened,” Deanna, 64, said on the Wednesday, July 15, episode of “The Sarah Fraser Show” podcast. “Everybody should be checked out in that family.” She suggested Jill Duggar could be an exception, as Jill has previously spoken about distancing herself from her extended family. “I know Jill has done the work and the therapy,” Deanna explained, “but I think a lot of them should be.”
“It stems from somewhere,” Amy Duggar told podcast host Sarah Fraser, agreeing with Deanna’s call for an investigation.
“I just think that maybe they have suppressed a whole lot and they have not come to terms with the things that maybe have gone on and really how it messed with their heads with all the different IBLP principles and all the things.”
Some fans are skeptical of Amy Duggar and her mother Deanna because of how close they were to the family when the show was airing and allowed them to be seen on it. Amy was trying to jumpstart a country music career back then.
Jim Bob’s Niece Says They All Need Therapy
The Duggar family is known for their adherence to the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), a non-denominational, ultra-conservative Christian organization founded by Bill Gothard in 1961. “You have to remember that they were in these, like, big large groups of people that thought the same way, right?” Amy, 39, said.
“The men were the leaders and they could do whatever they wanted and no one could stand up or talk back to the men. … Everyone should have therapy. I do think an investigation going deeper might be good.”

TLC announced in July 2015 that it would cancel 19 Kids and Counting two months after the Josh Duggar molestation scandal emerged. Some family members later returned for the spinoff Counting On, which aired until 2020. TLC officially ended its relationship with the Duggars after Josh’s 2021 arrest.

Duggar Cousin is Glad TLC Cancelled Show
Amy does not harbor any resentment toward the cable network for providing her family with a platform. Amy Duggar King says, “I’m glad that they exposed it. I really am, because that’s how healing begins: by exposing and getting help for the victims,” she claimed. “TLC honestly was great to work with. I enjoyed the whole crew, the production team. We had so many people that were a part of the show.”
