The General Hospital star who played Dr. Tony Jones for 22 years, Brad Maule, revealed some tragic news about his son, Hunter, who was 5 days short of his 40th birthday.
He shared: “My beloved son, Hunter Nix Maule, died today,” Maule revealed on his personal social media page.
The post went on to say, “His 40th birthday was five days away,” Maule added as Hunter was born on July 30, 1986. “My son struggled with life. He was never in trouble, but was deeply troubled by the world he saw around him and couldn’t fix, at least in his eyes. Thank you for all your condolences and loving thoughts for him. I hope somehow, through God’s Grace, he felt your love and is finally at peace.”
Maule also posted a photo of his son, then about 10 years old, playing hockey (defense) for the W. Valley Wolves in 1996. Founded in 1992 as the W. Valley Wolves, the club is now known as California Heat (Hockey) and focuses on “player development on and off the ice.”
Maule’s supporters have showered him with love and compassion. “Brad, my heart hurts for you and your family,” Nancy Olive Prince said. “I pray God sends you comfort and peace.” Jeff Prushankin adds, “No idea what to say. Janet and I are heartbroken, but our pain is nowhere near the pain you & Lily & Laverne must feel. ♥ you all, and you are all in our prayers.”
Brad Maule’s Official IG page said, “We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Brad on the heartbreaking loss of his beloved son, Hunter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brad and his family during this.
“So terribly saddened by the news. My deepest condolences”

Besides General Hospital, Maule made short-term appearances on Port Charles as Tony, as well as on Passions and The Young and the Restless. He also hosts a podcast called Made in Nacogdoches with Brad Maule.
Tony died in 2006, surrounded by his family, from a man-made strain of encephalitis. Maule reprised the role as a spirit in 2019 when his son Lucas (then played by Ryan Carnes, now by Van Hansis) was struggling and needed fatherly support.
Maule received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for a heartbreaking storyline where Tony’s daughter, BJ (Brighton Hertford), was declared brain dead after a school bus accident. BJ’s heart was transplanted into her cousin Maxie (then Robyn Richards), who needed a new heart.

In a memorable scene, Tony listened to his daughter’s heart beating inside Maxie. Tony and Bobbie’s marriage ended after he had an affair with Bobbie’s daughter, Carly (then Sarah Brown, now Laura Wright).
He became a household name among soap fans in 1984 when he joined the ABC soap GH as Dr. Tony Jones, the brother of Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner).
