On November 20, it was reported that Travis Turner, the coach of the Union High School football team in Virginia, was missing.
A Virginia high school football coach went missing during his team’s undefeated season, and a search is on for him.
A bulletin on the Virginia State Police website says that Travis Turner, 46, has been missing from Wise County since Thursday, November 20.
State police told WJHL and ABC affiliate KATV that agents were sent to Turner’s home on Thursday, but they were told on the way there that he was no longer there.
Authorities said on Saturday, November 22, that they were looking for the Union High School football coach.
According to WJHL, Jason Day of the Virginia State Police said that the search has mostly been around Turner’s house. He said that K-9 units and drones have helped with the search.
KATV says that Turner has been coaching at Union High School since 2011.
Mike Goforth, the superintendent of Wise County Public Schools, told WJHL that Jay Edwards would be in charge of “all coaching responsibilities” for the team during Saturday’s game.
The team, which won all 11 of its regular season games, beat Graham High School on Saturday, according to The New York Post. This win moved them on to the semi-finals.
According to KATV and NBC affiliate WCYB, Wise County Schools officials said on Friday, November 21, that a staff member in the district had been put on leave. The person has not been named in public.
District officials said, “At this time, a staff member has been put on administrative leave with pay while an outside agency looks into a complaint that was made to us.” “This is normal procedure and not proof of wrongdoing.” The division can’t say anything else.
