Jeopardy! Winner Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena, the champion who was on the long-running game show last November, was arrested on Monday, December 1, on two felony “peeping” charges.
MyFox8.com has reported that the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina filed a warrant saying that DeSena put cameras in a victim’s bedroom and bathroom on October 10, 2025. Last Monday, the 43-year-old development engineer from Raleigh was arrested. He wasn’t given a bond.
Desena’s case will have a probable cause hearing on Wednesday, December 10.
Jeopardy! Champion DeSena Has Always Been Controversial
DeSena made his first appearance on Jeopardy! on November 11, 2024, and he won his episode with $17,487. His first episode had the controversial tie for second and third place, with both of his opponents going all-in and ending up with $1. The decision about who would get the second and third consolation prizes got mixed reactions from viewers.
The North Carolina native went on to win two days in a row, bringing his total to $44,698. He won his second episode on November 12, 2024.
He lost his third game, but he came back on January 16, 2025, to play in the Champions Wildcard tournament, where he was trying to get into the 2025 Tournament of Champions. DeSena made it to the semifinals, but fan favorites Drew Goins and Jen Feldman beat him in the end.

DeSena often posted his thoughts on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum while his episodes were airing. He wrote about the “Lorelai” he wrote on one of his Final Jeopardy! posts. answers was a shout-out to his four-month-old daughter at the time “so that she might see it years in the future and smile.”
PrimeTimer says that DeSena had a fan base in the retro-gaming world before he was on Jeopardy! People knew him for his work on the video games 16 Bit Gems, Apollo Z Hack, and The Video Game Years. From 2009 to 2015, he also ran the YouTube channel ClanOfTheGrayWolf under the name “Roo.”
