Deadliest Catch Crew Mourns Death of Todd Meadows
Deadliest Catch crew members are mourning the death of one of their own. Todd Meadows lost his life while out at sea on February 25. Captain Shelford made a heartfelt tribute to Meadows on social media. There has also been a GoFundMe set up to help the Meadows family after his untimely death.
Captain Shelford said, “February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea. We lost our brother, Todd Meadows. Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
Shelford went on to say they are all heartbroken in a way they cannot fully express. He also shared that Meadows loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on through his children and all the memories they will carry forward. Shelford asked fans to keep Todd’s family in their prayers. He concluded his post saying, “Rest easy brother, till we meet again.”
What Happened To Todd Meadows?
The cause of death for the Deadliest Catch deckhand has not been released. However, it’s being reported by news outlets that Todd Meadows died tragically while filming the show during a fishing incident. Update: The 25-year-old rookie deckhand died when he fell overboard into the freezing waters of the Bering Sea while filming the long-running Discovery Channel show.
Along with Captain Shelford’s touching tribute to Meadows, his grandmother also commented on the post. She said, “We thank you for honoring Todd with this heartfelt tribute. It is true, he was beloved by many, his reach was broad. He will be forever grieved & missed. Signed, his shattered grandmother.”
Captain Shelford’s wife, Heidi, also commented on the post about how heartbroken they are for Todd and his family.
A GoFundMe was set up in hopes of raising money for the Meadows family. Todd leaves behind three little boys who will miss their father dearly.
Meadows is not the first death among the cast in recent years. In June 2024, deckhand Nick Marvar died at 59 following a “medical emergency.” Four years prior, in 2020, deck boss Nick McGlashan died at the age of 33. In May 2018, former Deadliest Catch captain Blake Painter was found dead in his home in Astoria, Oregon, at the age of 38.
