” General Hospital fans are learning more about an Emmy-Winning actor on the hit daytime drama who had a drug addiction. Nobody knew of his struggles and addiction, including his own wife. The GH alum opened up about his past on a recent podcast. He hopes his story will help others who are hiding behind drugs. Who is it? Keep reading for all the details.
General Hospital Star Reveals Drug Addiction
A General Hospital alum is opening up about the struggles he’s endured throughout his life. One of those struggles is a battle with drugs. Through the years, many soap stars have admitted struggling with mental health issues. The former Lucky Spencer can relate and recently shared his story and what led him to turn to drugs.
Jacob Young spoke about his addiction and what led him there on a recent episode of the Imperfectly Perfect podcast. He revealed that he grew up in a home that had endured divorce. He never even knew his parents together as a couple. They divorced when he was very young.
Young went on to say that his father remarried, and he became close to his stepmother. He moved in with them as a teenager. Sadly, she committed suicide when he was just 16. He started smoking weed when he was 14 and then, in his twenties, turned to alcohol. Young said, “I was drinking a beer or two or three, four, just to kind of lower the anxiety or the feeling of what I needed to do and get in front of the cameras and be interviewed. So that started becoming a habit to help ease the anxiety.”
He Revealed Opioid Addiction
From that point, he moved on to cocaine and Molly. It all led to an opioid addiction that he couldn’t kick. He said, “I got into my mid-20s, you know, then it was cocaine … and there was Molly. I was a single guy. I was making a ton of money in New York.” He continued, “I was dealing with resentment, depression, old wounds that were still bleeding inside of me.”
Young went on to say, “I started getting hooked on opioids, and I went through seven years of my life wasted on opioids. Still trying to figure out what was wrong with me, but I didn’t know. It was just needing to numb [to] just feel normal.”
Young revealed that nobody knew he was addicted. He still showed up and did his lines. He was living a lie. Young then went to his wife and said he needed help. He knew he needed help, but was scared of getting sick coming off the drugs.
Young is now drug-free and putting his story out there in hopes of helping others.
