Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown was cremated, not buried, after he died by suicide. As previously reported, Matt died on May 27, and the Okanogan County Coroner later ruled his death a suicide caused by a single gunshot wound to the head.
According to his death certificate, Matt’s ashes were transferred to the Okanogan County Crematory on June 24. He was found in the fast-moving Okanogan River by a private search party.
The coroner also determined Matt had methamphetamine in his system at the time of his death. Immersion in the river after the gunshot was listed as a contributing factor.
Noah Brown Details Finding His Older Brother’s Dead Body
The youngest of the Brown brothers, Noah Brown, star of Alaskan Bush People, describes the heartbreaking moment he discovered his brother Matt Brown’s lifeless body. Noah informed supporters about the incident on social media.
He went on, “My oldest brother, Matthew Brown, has passed away.”
“I was there when we pulled him out of the river,” Noah disclosed.
The youngest son of the Brown family, who appeared on Discovery’s Alaskan Bush People, spent days searching for his elder brother, Matt Brown, before his body was eventually found in a river on May 30, according to an Instagram video posted by Noah later that day. (His post came after Solomon Isaiah “Bear” Brown, his sibling, confirmed Matt’s death at the age of 42 in an Instagram video.)
“It’s late, and I have some bad news. … It’s been a long day,” Noah, 33, began in the emotional video. “For the past couple days, I’ve been working with search and rescue groups trying to locate the body. And today, the group that I was working with located the missing body, and I identified it as Matthew.”
“We hauled him up off the bank,” he said of his brother Matt. “And then, after the sheriffs got there and everything, the coroner did his thing, and I went down to identify that it was him. It’s definitely Matthew. His ID and Social Security card was on him, and I was able to visually identify that it was Matthew.”
Bear Brown paid Tribute To His Big Brother
Matt’s brother, Bear Brown, paid tribute to him while announcing his death, describing him as “intelligent, curious, creative, and endlessly fascinated by the world around him.” Bear also acknowledged Matt’s long-standing struggles with mental health and substance abuse.
Matt had been estranged from much of his family in recent years. Following his death, relatives expressed mixed emotions, saying they were grieving his loss while also feeling some relief in finally knowing what had happened to him.
