General Hospital star Kirsten Storms recently posted on social media with updates about both her personal life and her connection to the show. Storms described this year as especially difficult, noting on Instagram that her apartment was allegedly broken into and she’s been facing ongoing problems, including disrupted WiFi and issues with her phone.
Earlier in the year, her ex-husband, Brandon Barash, sought a restraining order, alleging Storms was experiencing a mental health crisis. Storms, who had not previously commented on these claims, addressed them directly in a statement on Instagram: “I’m sure some of you guys have read the stories online regarding a situation involving something my ex-husband is currently trying to claim.”
She said she felt the need to publicly address the entire situation, both because “records and evidence” would support her and because “it puts my safety in a dangerous position,” as she continued to claim someone was “regularly entering” her home.
Storms laid out the timeline, explaining she took photos of the initial incident in August but waited months before going public while she worked with local agencies, only sharing her story after moving out.
Storms Explains Why She Took a General Hospital Hiatus
She also explained her decision to step away from General Hospital late last year: “Choosing to take time off from work (for my own personal reasons) was a ‘leap of faith’ kind of moment for me. Seeking a ‘quality of life’ kinda thing,” she shared.
Despite working with authorities to investigate, Storms described the entire situation as upsetting. “I haven’t been online much because of how the circumstances have been twisted into something that they shouldn’t be,” she wrote. “This has been a very serious thing for me to go through.”
Kirsten Storms Says It Would Not Be Comfortable Returning to Work
Storms then directly addressed the question fans have been asking—her future on General Hospital. Viewers have eagerly awaited her comeback. Storms said:
“Given what’s been going on, I can’t say I will be comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work,” Storms wrote.
“This has been an eye-opening experience about the downside of my profession,” Storms shared. She ended her statement with, “My daughter is my entire life; she is (and always will be) my first priority.”
Because Maxie is such a central character, it’s currently unclear whether the show will recast the role—something General Hospital has done before when Storms was unavailable, with Jen Lilley most notably stepping in. A decision will need to be made soon to either write Maxie out or find a way to move the storyline forward, as her absence from Cassius’s plot continues to be noticed by both fans and critics.
