Sister Wives’ Meri Brown has always been looked at as the difficult Brown wife. She was generally considered one of the least favorite wives, along with Robyn, among fans. The truth is now coming out as to why she seemed to have more problems than the other wives.
Meri Brown still has trouble dealing with some parts of her past
The Sister Wives star, who is now 55, is still dealing with the effects of her plural marriage to Kody Brown years after they broke up. In an exclusive sneak peek of the next episode of PEOPLE, which airs on Sunday, January 25, Meri says that she “had a lot of emotions” about how her former sister wife Janelle joined the family.
Meri supported Robyn coming into the family as an ally?
Some even say that Janelle & Christine’s horrible relationship triggered Meri to help seek out Robyn for Kody. Meri would then have an ally in the family. But as Sister Wives fans know, it backfired terribly.
“Well, people don’t—I’m not just going to say people, I’m going to say Kody—Kody and Janelle don’t see that some of the problems I had in polygamy might have come from the fact that they wanted to get married on my birthday,” she says. “They were going to get married on my birthday.”
Kody & Janelle’s choice of wedding date was heartless
She says that Kody, 57, and Janelle, 56, thought, “It doesn’t matter; we’ll just celebrate Meri’s birthday another day,” but Kody’s mom stepped in and stopped the idea.
“Excuse me?” Meri says, “It does matter.” “So let’s start the family and marriage with that.” And they forget that she used to be married to my brother, which could have made her feel a certain way.
Before they became sister wives, Meri and Janelle were sisters-in-law because Janelle was married to Meri’s older brother Adam Barber.
At the end of the preview, Meri says, “There’s a lot of emotion.” “There are a lot of feelings!” Sister Wives fans have a lot of feelings about Janelle’s lack of empathy. They weighed in:
“I like Janelle but she really has a lack of empathy and understanding of others in my opinion. She’s dismissive about marrying Meri’s brother or wanting to marry Kody on Meri’s birthday. She didn’t think it was wrong to go to the movies when Christine had been caring for the kids all day long and was probably exhausted.

“With her own children she didn’t really care how Hunter or Gabe were affected by the moves and both really struggled. With Hunter maybe there weren’t other options but Gabe could have stayed with Maddie. Having been through the same situation with Hunter she should have known better. She didn’t care how Savannah would feel living in the trailer, how it might be uncomfortable or she might be embarrassed or couldn’t have friends over etc. The trailer was expensive so it wasn’t really a “money saver” at all. Or how Savannah would feel as Janelle went on a “birthday date” when Kody basically ignored her.”
“Whatever actually happened with the “back door dill”, at the point a producer is asking about it, it’s going in the show. Even Kody realized he should address it with Meri first. Janelle has no consideration for the feelings of others so it didn’t even occur to her to try to clear it up before Meri heard about it and assumed the worst.”
Another said: “Honestly, the fact that Janelle can smile sweetly at Kody after he full on ghosted Savanah is all it took for me to be disgusted with her”
“Janelle does whatever she wants to do with no regard for others. You gave many examples of this. Typical sister wife just like Meri, Christine and Robyn. Their attitude is “I got what I wanted. Hooray for me and screw you”. They are ALL like that.”
When Meri’s brother died, not a peep from Janelle
Meri Brown’s brother and Janelle’s ex-husband, Adam Clark Barber, passed away 2 days before Christine’s wedding. Meri shared a sad post of memories and how much she loved him. She expressed her intention to honor him. She said:
“Yesterday, Oct 5, 2023, just 2 months short of his 55th birthday, we lost him.” She added, “For now, I remember him with honor, kindness, & love.”
