‘The Young and the Restless’ spoilers reveal that many fans are still excited about the news that Josh Griffith is finishing his time as head writer.
This is seen as good news for those who think Y&R has grown stale and needs a fresh perspective. However, more changes are on the horizon now that Griffith’s departure is official.
This could result in some key actors being cut as Y&R prepares to introduce new characters and recasts. The head writers always have their own vision and tastes for certain characters and storyline directions.
A new writer may not share Griffith’s enthusiasm for certain characters and couples. Griffith tried to shape Billy Flynn into a Cane Ashby type, a role he arguably didn’t fit.
It’s obvious that Griffith wanted Cane and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) to be a major couple, but the next head writer may have different plans or might not even want Cane on canvas.
Will the New Headwriter Write Matt Clark Out?
There’s also the issue of Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) controversial redemption, since many fans doubt it’s possible. Some viewers will never accept Matt after everything he’s done—no matter how likable Howarth is.
A new head writer could quickly decide to write Matt out, so that’s worth noting. Roger Howarth has done an incredible job making fans like and empathize with his character. The new head writer could take his storyline in a completely different direction and shock everyone. Twins are always a great go-to when a character gets written into a corner, and fans embrace the actor.
There’s also a chance that sidelined characters might be sent off-screen.
Are Chelsea, Adam, and Connor out?
Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) aren’t very active, so it would be easy to send them away with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey).
The same could happen to Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun), Noah Newman (Lucas Adams), and other familiar faces who aren’t central to the current storylines in Genoa City.
No matter what, changes in the head writer position often mean both firings and new hires. The new writer will likely add more compelling storylines to our favorite characters and switch directions.
Y&R could let go of some cast members to make room for new characters, a recast of Summer Newman (most recently played by Allison Lanier), and more.
