However, writers could be setting the stage for one of the biggest twists yet. Perhaps there is more to Joe than meets the eye, and the clues may already be lining up to make a big reveal. What exactly is Joe hiding?
General Hospital Setting Up For Biggest Twist Yet
Over the years, General Hospital has introduced many police characters, many of whom eventually fade into the background. However, from the very beginning, something about Joe felt different. When Joe Fitzpatrick first showed up in Port Charles, most fans assumed he was just another officer joining the PCPD. But the more he appears on screen, the harder it is to ignore a startling possibility: Joe may not be a typical detective at all.
He might actually be an undercover WSB agent trying to gain intel and end some of the evil overtaking Port Charles. Joe’s arrival timing is a significant clue. He appeared just as the Sidwell situation was escalating into a more dangerous phase. Meanwhile, Jack Brennan’s (Chris McKenna) influence has been growing. Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) has become increasingly involved in covert affairs, and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) remains deeply engaged with international threats. In fact, she finally appears back on screen this week.
This isn’t a time when General Hospital is focusing on routine police work. The show appears to be focusing more on hidden agendas. It seems many characters have one. So, introducing a secret WSB agent into Port Charles now would fit perfectly.
This theory makes perfect sense when you think about the way Joe has been presented from the start. Fans have been told repeatedly that there is more to him than meets the eye. There has not been a clear background story given as to who he is or why he’s showing up out of the blue. Writers have been careful about what information is being presented and when. The longer the writers avoid revealing Joe’s true identity, the more suspicious his role seems.

Jonathan Bennett’s remarks have only added to the speculation. Instead of describing Joe as being a straightforward detective, Bennett hinted that viewers will eventually learn what Joe is really all about. This isn’t usually how a character is presented unless there’s a bigger piece to the puzzle embedded in their past. He seems to have been possibly hinting at a big twist. If Joe were just another PCPD officer, there would be little reason to build anticipation around his identity. The show’s ongoing emphasis on mystery suggests a far bigger storyline is waiting to unfold on the horizon.
Joe’s actions also raise questions. For someone supposedly new to Port Charles, he often appears unusually well-informed. He regularly becomes involved in some of the town’s most important investigations. Joe seems to be looking at the bigger picture, which is precisely how a trained intelligence agent would approach most cases.
One of the strongest points supporting the WSB theory is the idea that Joe might not actually be investigating Sidwell directly. What if Sidwell is only a small part of the mission? This would explain why he is so observant and careful. Instead of merely chasing criminals, he could be watching the people around him. Every conversation, investigation, and suspicious slip-up might be part of a larger operation. The question is, who could he be watching?
Which General Hospital Character Will Discover Joe’s Secret?
If this is true, Dante could be the first to become suspicious and believe Joe is hiding a secret. Since Joe works closely with Dante, any inconsistencies in his story would eventually become impossible to ignore. Perhaps Joe’s records won’t align, or details from his past will raise concerns. Maybe Dante will realize Joe has access to information he shouldn’t as a new detective in Port Charles.
What if Joe isn’t targeting Sidwell at all? What if his real mission involves someone even more dangerous? Sidwell might be a distraction while the true criminal remains hidden. General Hospital is known for long-term twists, and this would be the kind of reveal capable of reshaping several storylines at once. Suddenly, every interaction Joe has had since arriving in Port Charles would take on a completely new meaning.
Of course, there is no official confirmation linking Joe to the WSB. However, the clues keep piling up. His mysterious arrival, secretive background, unusual knowledge, and the show’s refusal to clarify who he really is all point in that shocking direction. The idea might sound far-fetched now, but many of General Hospital’s biggest twists began exactly this way.
If Joe truly is an undercover WSB operative, General Hospital may have already set the stage for one of its biggest surprises in 2026. While everyone is focused on Sidwell, Brennan, and Josslyn, the most dangerous secret in Port Charles could still be hiding. When that secret is finally revealed, nothing will ever be the same for many lives.
